Dear Marling,

There is a new and much improved surgical procedure replacing pallidotomy
that eliminates the stereotactic headgear and adds imaging technology that
improves the accuracy from approximately 1 millimeter to within 40 microns.
This surgery uses a much smaller apparatus and is much shorter in duration.

Two neurosurgeons and the hardware supplier for the old headgear are working
on fine tuning the surgery and its tools. They have performed two
successful surgeries since the beginning of the year. They are proving it
through the older apparatus. If you or any other list members would like
further information please contact me via personal e-mail or by phone
@207-666-8345 (Maine Parkinson Society).

Regards,

Greg Leeman

Subject: been to the neuro

>Hello again,
>Well, after nearly 3 months without meds (except a few sinemet for
>emergency conditions) I went to my neuro yesterday. He said I could be
>called a med failure because I am too sensitive to side effects from the

>Scary, at least for me. I am still not ready for that step.
>But, the fact that he talked to me about it, is scary for me. To know
>that I cannot take the meds out there, and eventually the only answer
>(unless the cure is found) will be surgery, gives me nightmares.

>Just a few thoughts.
