My Dad has dementia also, he usually doesn't even know what's going on around him. He stares blankly into space, or bends over and picks at things on the rug. He doesn't know my Mom, but when the Dr. asked him when he was in the Navy he said "at the end of WWII" (which is correct). He comes and goes but even at his best he doesn't seem to comprehend much.
