    "REwiring the brain. How a bright idea became an innovative mediccal
device"
tells the story of how Alim-Louis Benabid, backin the 1980s in Grenoble,France
expanded the idea of brain electrodes from a diagnostic technique to a
therapeutic device for controlling the symptoms of Parkinson's Disease.
     This two-page article  takes Benadid across continents from
Grenoble, France to Minneapolis,Minnesota  where he collaborated with
Meditronic and a biological engineer, Mark Rise, to produce Activa.
The  article describes how Activa , a  deep brain stimulator, has been
developed to control symptoms of Parkinson's, and is being considered
as  beneficial in the treatment of some mental disorders.
