>Here's what's going on with the FDIC's proposed
>"Know Your Customer" regulation:
>
>1) The campaign against KYC is going like gangbusters!
>
>The FDIC has "counted" over 140,000 comments opposed to the "Know Your
>Customer" rule, with only twenty (that's right -- 20!) in favor. They
>have stacks and stacks of uncounted mail lying around the office, and
>their in-baskets are full!
>
>OVER 140,000 Americans have now joined you in signing our online
>petition to the FDIC opposing the Know Your Customer regulation.
>It appears that http://www.DefendYourPrivacy.com has been responsible for
>generating the majority of the comments against KYC!
>
>2) Bill introduced to repeal KYC; Judiciary & Banking Committees hold
> hearings.
>
>U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) has introduced the "Know Your Customer Sunset
>Act," which would prevent agencies like the FDIC from imposing KYC
>regulations. Support for Paul's bill -- HR 516 -- is growing rapidly,
>and already has 40 co-sponsors, including influential members like
>Majority Whip Tom Delay and Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde.
>We will keep you posted on its progress.
>
>Rep Paul testified against Know Your Customer before a subcommittee of
>the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, March 4th. Rep. Paul was
>also scheduled to introduce an amendment to a bill under consideration
>in a subcommittee of the Banking Committee that would repeal Know Your
>Customer. Details will be provided in our next update.
>
>3) "Know Your Customer" is a hot topic on talk radio!
>
>Pressure to kill the bank spying law is building to a fever pitch on talk
>radio. We have had representatives on the air repeatedly in major media
>markets like New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Denver, San Francisco, Tampa,
>Washington, Miami, and Pittsburgh.
>
>In all, more than 2000 stations have broadcast interviews with us about
>Know Your Customer in the past few weeks. As a result, tens of thousands
>of outraged talk radio listeners have rushed to
>http://www.DefendYourPrivacy.com and signed the online petition.
>
>Through talk radio we are also reaching millions of Americans *without*
>Internet access and persuading them to join our campaign. Thousands of
>them have responded by faxing and writing to the FDIC to demand an end to
>Big Brother banking. We will continue to saturate the airwaves with the
>truth about Know Your Customer until the comment period ends.
>
>4) ONLY 3 DAYS REMAINING TO SIGN THE PETITION!
>
>Only three days are left to sign the petition (the deadline is
>March 8), so if you have friends who haven't yet signed the petition,
>please refer them to the site ASAP at http://www.DefendYourPrivacy.com
>
>Thank you again for your support.
