Tremor

WESTPORT, Mar 16 (Reuters Health) - Chronic thalamic stimulation
is an effective and relatively safe treatment for parkinsonian
and essential tremor, according to the results of a European
study published in the March issue of the Journal of Neurology,
Neurosurgery and Psychiatry. Dr. P. Limousin, of Joseph Fourier
University in Grenoble, France, and colleagues at 12 other
centers in Europe conducted an open, prospective multicenter
trial to determine the efficacy and safety of implanting a
permanent quadripolar stimulation electrode (Model 3387,
Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minnesota) in the thalamic nucleus.
