What type of deep brain stimulation are you scheduled for?  An STN?
Different placement of the electrodes determines which PD symptoms the
surgery targets.

As you'll read in a previous letter, Dick had pallidal stimulations.  He had
great improvement in his tremor and dystonia - his two biggest problems - but
we don't believe there was any help with his balance.  It wasn't a problem at
the time, but as the disease progresses, is becoming increasingly so.

I think the STN may very well target balance, though.  Your doctor or others
who've had the STN surgery can answer that.
