In the March '99 issue is an ad with the following text. There are 2
pictures. The first shows the patient with her head in bandages & the caption
reads "One day after brain surgery for Parkinson's at most hospitals. Looking
at the other picture, I would not have guess she had PD, but the caption
reads "One day after Georgia Gamma Knife surgery at Piedmont Hospital.

Choosing brain surgery for
Parkinson's is now a no-brainer.
Before the Georgia Gamma Knife,~' the tremors and other syptoms of
Parkinson's Disease were treated with invasive hrain surgery or with drugs
such as L~Dopa, which work well. hut may lose their beneficial effects after
several years.

THE NEW CHOICE: THE GEORGIA GAMMA KNIFE AT PIEDMONT HOSPITAL. NO INVASIVE
SURGERY. ND DRUGS. NO RISK OF INFECTION.

Now Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta has a new way to permanently treat
some syptoms of Parkinson's Disease. It's the Georgia Gamma Knife
Already proven effective in treating even inoperable brain tumors,
the Georgia Gamma Knife is not a knife at all but 201 beams of sharply
focused gamma radiation. Guided by computer and the neurosurgeon, these tiny
rays pass harmlessly thru the scalp, skull & healthy tissue to focus on &
destroy only the spcific brain cell cluster causing the tremor of Parkinson's
Disease.

RETURN TO WORK THE NEXT DAY.
Because the Gamma Knife uses painless radiation and a local
anesthetic, there's no shaved head, no incision, and no lengthy recuperation.
The day after treatment, most people can resume normal activities - even go
hack to work.
The Georpia Gamma Knife is another innovative tool of the
Neuroscience Institute at Piedmont Hospital.Comhing neuro-radiology,
neurology, neuro-ophthaImology. and neuro-surpergy, the Neuroscience
Institute provides comprehensive testing and treatment for brain and spinal
tumors, strokes, head and spinal injuries, other spine disorders, and a
variety of other neurological conditions.
Only Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta has the Georpia Gamma Knife. For a
