        The latest US census (1920) revealed US pop. topped 100 million!
        The 19th. Amendment had just been ratified granting suffrage to
        American women.
        Radio Broadcasting was in its infancy.
        Henry Ford was still churning out Model T's.
        A 26 year old mobster Al Capone was entering his heyday in Chicago.
        Young J. Edgar Hoover becomes director of the FBI (1924 - 72)
        Republican Calvin Coolidge elected 30th. President on a platform of
        "Coolidge Prosperity".

        Don Mckinley born in the heart of the Roaring Twenties.

        The comic strip Little Orphan Annie appeared this year.
        Paul Whiteman inaugurates "Symphonic Jazz" with the introduction of
        George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue".
        In 1924 Louis Armstrong married pianist Lillian Hardin and went to
        New York to join Fletcher Henderson's Orchestra.
        In musical theatre Fred Astaire and sister Adele dance in Lady Be
        Good.
        Comic genius Buster Keaton making silent films such as Sherlock
        Junior and The Navigator.
        Shopping in New York City is booming; Barneys and Saks Fifth Ave.
        open flagship stores, while Macy's moves to Herald Square and offers
        its first Thanksgiving Day Parade.
        1924 heralded the first automatic elevators installed in the
        Standard Oil Bldg. in New York City. (they still used people to
        direct traffic and initiate closing the doors.)
