Dear Group- The only info I could find regarding passion flower indicates that its use may result in CNS depression at large doses (15-35mg). The pharmacological activity is attributed to the alkaloids and flavonoids. Some of the alkaloids, the harmala alkaloids have been found to inhibit MAO and may account for part of the pharmacologic effect. The neurodepressive effects of the extracts have been used to treat sleep disorders but few clinical trials exist to support this therapeutic effect.
