We are fortunate to have three (3) daily and six (6) weekly newspapers that
covers the
area where we are located. Also, we have five (5) local cable access stations
in the area
that gives us lot time. We feel we receive excellent coverage. Sometimes they
don't
print the news we give them. Sometimes they change our news release. One
thing I
have learned in a hurry is what we think is news to us may not be news to the
newspapers.
Sometimes, you get depressed. It is hard to take after you have handled all
the details.
But somehow, you must go on. We find it helps a lot if you invite them to be
a speaker.
We started the month of April with the Mayors from six different cities;
Troy, Tipp City,
Piqua, Covington, West Milton, and Potsdam - all in Ohio, issuing
proclamations. Plus
one resolution from Miami County Commissioners, Troy, Oh. We took pictures of
Mayors
presenting the proclamation to members of support group. The news media gave
us good
coverage - some used the pictures. Some of the cable stations used short
messages. Our
support group now is planning on three days at the mall in Piqua, Oh with our
members
present to answer questions and use THE PENNIES FOR PARKINSON'S program. We
will have plenty brochures, booklets, etc.. for the public. We will try to
show some Video
tapes on various types of medications. We sent news releases to four
newspapers on
Archbishop Tutu's offer to write a prayer. I have one paper (Stillwater
Valley Adv, Cov-
ington, Oh) that did print the article. Another paper, Troy Daily News, Troy,
Oh, did print
an article, but it was not the one I sent them. The other two newspapers said
that they did
print it, but I have not found it yet. I have sent copies the prayer to: West
Milton Record,
West Milton, Oh and The Piqua Call, Piqua, Oh. All four said they would it.

We contacted the Council of Churches requesting prayer for a cure of PD. A
copy of the
prayer was available - I am sure how many of them used the prayer, but at our
church, our youngest son read the letter by Stan Houston and our oldest son
read the prayer by Archbishop Tutu. Both brought a tear our eyes. Our church
has received a lot information on
Parkinson's Disease. During the last couples of years, they have sent many
letters to
congress for Udall bill. This month we have a display set up in our church on
Parkinson's.
In summary, our support group has busy. We are happy with the news media. Our
congratulations to all of you who are making it happen.
