Dear Barbara,
Thanks for the warm welcome. Allow me to introduce
myself: I live in New York City. I am an MD and a neuropsychiatrist
(yes, there is such a hybrid) by specialty. For many years (14) I ran
the Serious and Persistent Mental Illness Center at Mount Sinai Hospital.
I was appointed three and a half years ago to be the Medical Director of the NY
State Office of Mental Health which oversees all mental health related
issues in our State. My interest in PD came many years ago when my father
was diagnosed. In 1986 I also joined the Movement disorders center at
Sinai and have been working since with Drs. Yahr and Olanow as a
neuropsychiatric consultant. As a son of a PWP, (and importantly, a
son of a most devoted caregiver, my mother) I have had the
humbling opportunity to experience PD far from my academic Ivory
Tower which I believe gave me a much more rounded understanding of our
plight. I actually was a member of the list but dropped out two years ago
when my father passed away (at the age of 85, in his sleep and unrelated to his
PD). Now I feel strong enough to join again. I am eagerly
anticipating to learn from the list members.
Here is my first question: Does anyone have any experience
with Budipine (a German medication purported to alleviate tremors in
PD?)
Thanks, Rami
Dear Rami:
Welcome to the PARKINSN
list. Please send a message to the list
(if you want to) introducing
yourself and any Parkinson's-related
topics you would like.
Let me
introduce myself. I am a secretary for six faculty members
in the
School of Nursing, McMaster University. In September, 1992,
I was
diagnosed as having Parkinson's...hence my interest in this
list.
I
have appended the guide below this message. I hope you enjoy
your
involvement with the PARKINSN list.

the list subscriber guides.
These documents are quite clearly written and
are full of helpful
commands. For example, detailed in the subscriber
guide is the nomail
command which can be set when you are on vacation and
do not want to
receive list mail.
