Rosemary is right.  Any form of exercise prior to knee surgery will be
beneficial for you.  I swam and did water walking for years prior
tosurgery.  I was,also, able to walk several miles a day.  The result
was that following  surgery my  kee was back to original extension!!
Regardless of how much you can do   , any bit will help!  I wish you
