Sub Thalamic Nucleus

The operation is officially called:

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) of the STN.

This is a stereotactic operation. Through a sonde placed in the brain,
electrodes are put on specific locations of the STN. These electrodes are
connected by wires to a "pacemaker" placed below the clavicle bone. The
"pacemaker" stimulates the STN with electric pulses, thus reducing /
suppressing PD symptoms.

The most effective one is bi-lateral, some researchers even indicate it
might slow down the progression of PD.
