Onderwerp: L-DOPA SLOWS THE PROGRESSION OF PARKINSON'S DISEASE

Hi all,

I just posted the press release by the Lancet about this article.
In the press release they talk about "PD".
In the original article they talk about "familiar parkinsonism responding to
L-dopa".

I get very angry when professional researchers publish such an article
PRETENDING it is applicable to ALL users of L-dopa. This is also very
confusing for the not so knowledgable amongst PWP.

Why is it IMO not applicable in general:

1) it is P'ism, not PD.
2) P'ism doesn't respond as well to L-dopa as PD. So this family is an
exception.
3) they talk about the experiences with only ONE family. Exception again.
4) in this family P'ism has affected them for a long time, therefor they
could compare those affected before L-dopa was available and those that were
treated after l-dopa was available. Such a long history of P'ism and in so
many family members in more then one generation is also very rare, rare and
rare.

The study perhaps is of some value as a very exceptional case history.
The rest is all air.

Hans.
