Today is day number three after the surgery. Up until today she had been taking Sinemet every two hours with only about 60-70 minutes of poor "on" time during each period. She was unable to link successfully and she was in constant pain (especially, in the neck and head). The pain would become unbearable during "off" times. Somehow, she tolerated it. Many times she had a strong need to cry out in agony but the PD would not allow her throat and mouth muscles to work and a muffled sound would come out. It was frightening for the family to watch and I know horrendous for my mother. Her appetite never left but protein greatly affected her Sinemet. She gradually had to give up more and more food because any food now interfered with the adsorption of the Sinemet. She went from 135 lbs to 91 lbs. It took a lot of will power on her part because she wanted very badly to eat. She was always hungry. The two days after the surgery went well. She continued her Sinemet as before and most of the pain had disappeared. She had an increase in dyskenisia and tremor but that may only be temporary. Plus, those two symptoms were mild to moderate. Today we decided to give her Sinemet every 2.5 hours so that she can eat a little bit more during her meals. She did not do as well as the previous two days but she is still much better than before the surgery. We will probably go back to dosing every 2 hours. As for any other medications. She is taking Elavil 30 minutes before bed and Restoril right before going to sleep. A few weeks ago she tried a very low dose of Permax but she nearly passed out. We are going to wait for her to recover from the surgery and gain a little more weight before trying the Permax, again. If you wish more detailed information, let me know and I will e-mail them to you. My mother too suffers from the pain in her head and resists eating. She's on a feeding tube. I'm interested to hear how your mother responds to this surgery. Has she been taking any other drugs with the Sinemet? Cheryl
