Dear Cynthia,
As your mother is not taking any medications at this time, protein won't
be a factor for her. For people using levodopa (Sinemet) protein can
interfere with Sinemet absorption. Since she likes Ensure, that's fine
for her, especially since she's losing weight.

The more important problem, where nutrition is concerned, is her
diabetes. She should have a referral to a registered dietitian who is a
certified diabetes educator (CDE), and can help with both blood sugar
and her weight loss.

Her doctor and dietitian should also be aware that some of the PD
medications can cause false blood glucose readings.

Best regards,
Kathrynne
