Dennis *

Dick and I are happy to hear you're to have your second surgery, even if it's
DBS/GP. You may remember from our conversations at the time of your
pallidotomy that Dick had the pallidal stimulation bi-laterally three years
ago. He has had excellent results - primarily with the total elimination of
his severe tremor and significant reduction of his dystonia (which he had
instead of dyskinesia). The pallidal stim doesn't seem to help with
freezing and probably not with bradykinesia, but his quality of life is so
much better than prior to his surgeries it's unbelievable.

In your shoes, we, too, would have opted for the pallidal stim rather than
wait for who-knows-how-long for the STN. We wish you the best of luck, and
would be happy to answer any questions you might have prior to surgery.

Warmly, Margie Swindler cg for Dick 54/17
