Marie -

Dick was on Cogentin for many years - maybe ten or so. He also found it
helped greatly with the tremor. His neuro urged him to discontinue it, but
he felt very ill whenever he tried. Finally, our son convinced him that it
causes cognitive and memory difficulties, especially when taken long-term, so
he was willing to try again. The only way he could manage it was to cut the
tablets in 1/4s and take 3/4 of a dose for awhile, then 1/2, etc.

BTW, nothing seemed to work as well as the Cogentin for controlling tremor,
but it eventually got to the point that the Cogentin didn't do the job
anymore, either. What finally elminated his severe tremor entirely was
bilateral pallidal stimulation surgeries.
