I also do that but not as badly as Jamie.  As you know, once you bite it,
it's all the easier to bite it again because of the swelling.  I got a
bottle of ORA5, it's called, from my dentist.  It's an oral bactericidal
agent for oral mucosa, according to the label.  It really speeds healing of
sores anywhere in the mouth.  I feel for him because the pain really kills
the joy of eating.  Keep us  posted if you find a good cure for the problem.
