The information superhighway - that is the Internet - appears to be
studded with potholes in terms of medical information. Eighty agencies
and organizations from 25 countries recently searched the Wide World
Web on the occasion of the 1st International Health Claim Surf Day for
data on six ailments: arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, HIV/AIDS,
and multiple sclerosis. The search turned up more than 1,200 sites
that contained misleading or potentially false information.
