Carole, I pretty much agree with Judith. Mellaril is a poor choice for a PWP. If your husband is overmedicated on Tasmar it might show itself as dyskinesia - which can be mistaken for or be aggravated by agitation As a psychiatrist unless the patient was so agitated that there is no choice I would much rather see a patient like this treated on a neuro unit rather than a psych unit (although it depends on the hospital to some degree). Psych nursing staff - as well as a lot of medical nurses generally have little experience with PD and won't for instance know how critical timing is on meds. It sounds as though at least the MD that started the Melleril- does not know a whole lot about PD either since Mellaril is a dopamine blocker and it may stop dyskinesia but also likely will cause him to freeze. A neuro consult is critical preferably with someone who subspecializes in PD. What city is he in and what hospital is he at (probably you should send that to me privately)??? If his liver enzymes are only slightly off it is unlikely that he is experiencing the toxic effects of Tasmar since the liver enzymes would likely be extremely high.
