I believe instructions for eliminating the Happy99 virus were posted to
the list when it first became an issue, maybe about 6 months ago.
Perhaps someone who is adept at searching the archives could dig it out
and repost it to the list?
Usually an e-mail attachment will show up on your list of new mails with
some sort of symbol. In the body of the e-mail, the attachment with show
at the bottom of the text message. Do not double click on the
attachment! Delete the e-mail. Then discard the deleted e-mails (in
Eudora, it's called Trash and the instructions for emptying Trash are
Special on the menu bar). The attachment will
also have been downloaded to your computer. Mine go into the Eudora
Attach file. Others might find them in a Download subfile of their ISP
file (for instance, Mindspring/Download). If you use Microsoft '95 or
'98, you can access this through Explorer. When you find the offensive
downloaded file, highlight it (click ONCE, NOT TWICE), then click on File
and Delete on the menu bar. With Win'95/'98, it has now gone to the
Recycle bin, so it's STILL not really gone. Double click on the Recycle
Bin icon, click File and Empty Recycle Bin on the menu bar. To be extra
sure at this point, restart your computer.
Whew!
