Dear friends,
after reading ALL the posts on the current thread about humor,pigs,Ken,
etc. I want to make one "final" (I hope) comment.
It seems clear that the PWPs who have raised objections to the prevailing
silliness are NOT anti-humor. They are NOT being spoilsports or
unreasonable.
By and large, they are folks who have legitimate reasons--mostly physical,
but also due to the equipment they use--for finding the "delete" process
difficult or impossible.
I wish I knew a good solution--a way to meet everyone's needs equally well,
but sadly I can't claim that wisdom.
We folks who inhabit the "funny farm" from time to time (and there are
quite a few of us) are really trying hard to make it clear in the header
that those posts are NON-PD. I agree this is essential.
We hear the voices of those who find even this problematic, but we ALSO
hear the voices of many who say humor is a lifeline--a sanity-saver, a
blessed relief from unending preoccupation with PD.
In the nearly 4 years I've been a listmember there have been many times
when we tried to figure out a way to split the list, and it never seemed
possible to do it in a way that people were happy with. Perhaps the only
course that's left is to try to respect the needs of everyone as much as we
can, keep the humor within reasonable limits, and avoid blaming or putting
each other down for our differences--as has been said many times, "we're
all in this together", and we have, in the end, the same goal--the
conquest of PD!
