Ted....

My 10/24/94 unilateral (one side only) totally got rid of the
awful rigidity I had lived with for over a decade.

To this day, nearly five years later, the right side of my body
remains virtually the same as it's been since the surgery, which
is about 98% of normal.

I feel SO blessed in having been able to experience the tremendous
AND consistent relief I've had and every day of my life I say a
wee prayer for Drs.. Gary Heit (of Stanford University Medical
School, who had been at Loma Linda Medical Center on a fellowship)
and Loma Linda's own DR. Robert Iacono (he's recently gone into
private practice, tho still operates out of Loma Linda Hospital)
who trained Dr. Heit how to do pallidotomy in his own unique way.

While I hadn't ever PLANNED on having brain surgery when I
pictured the evolution of my life... much less being wide awake
and UNanesathasized throughout the procedure - the surgery itself
was a totally fascinating experience!!! Ultimately, I'd say it
was much easier than having a root canal! (But then, so was
childbirth!) <grin>

Subject: Questions about surgery

Are any of the surgical procedures for Parkinson's currently
covered under Medicare? Do any of these surgeries specifically
improve slowness of movement?
