I use the generic  of Restoril and after the first week or so,
opened the capsule and spilled a bit out before taking the pill,
and slept well on the reduced dosage.    I continued to open the
capsule each nite and spilled out a tiny bit MORE till I was
taking about 1/3 of a capsule and still getting to a decent nite's
sleep.

I've done this for over one year and found that I've had some
memory loss - tho not  particularly any more than my friends of a
like age who DON'T have PD seem to be experiencing.

I looked up Restoril in Worst Pills Best Pills, and that said it
was the one to prolly cause the LEAST amount of damage to the
patient IF ya felt you HAD to take something to  get to sleep.

You'll note, that's NOT the same thing as saying it's a safe or
beneficial drug.
