I have found crossword puzzles a good way to occupy "off" time. During my "on" time I do light gardening, woodworking and general shop work. Due to back problems and general P.D. weakness I've given up the heavier things like car repairs and service. I also do weird things like collect and restore old tools, electric fans and Coleman lamps and stoves. Going to the weekly swap meet is motivation to get in some good walking exercise. No matter how strange your hobby, you can probably find others with the same interests on the internet, so I guess we can call our computer a hobby facilitator.
