Hi to All,

A couple of years ago in the Neurology Journal, an editorial written by two
Neurologist discussed the trend of medical attention in the USA; warned us
of the dangers of becoming a "Fascist State".

Those of us who lived in the time frame of the Great Depression and the
birth of a Nazi Dictatorship, saw many examples of intense emotional belief
taking over all sense of reason and critical thinking. Historically, we
know the power of religion as a means of Social Control. We know the
equation of loss of power of self and our community causes us to extend our
individuality to group strength. That is the normal reaction. There is a
difference in being part of a group and being part of a mob. A mob operates
on emotion and limited critical thinking. They foster simple emotional
connections to action with out evaluating the consequences of such behavior
or even the soundness of logic.

Spiritual belief is probably the most personal of all notions of self, and
the meaning of self in the conscious life of people. It truly is sacred,
regardless of the number of folks who might share that faith. But when it
imposes itself on to others, by statement, innuendo, or act, of what is
right or correct for all, it is no long faith but rather dominance and
power over others. The end result is not spirituality, nor democracy, nor
the advancement of knowledge, nor the enhancement of civilization. It is
the control of the human mind and suppression of creativity, learning,
loving, and healing. It is the end of freedom.

The folks on this list who have spoken up, not only in the defense of fetal
cell research, but, and more importantly, their vigilance of democracy and
the individual, have truly aided and abetted the cause of freedom.

To all of you, from "Bubbie" Patterson to "Zayde Meyers" Thank you.
