Hi all.

I need some advice. Actually, I am looking for some related experiences since no PD is the same as is no Prostate Cancer making this a very complex decision. My father is faced with the many decisions concerning cancer treatments - surgery vs "watchful" waiting and seed treatment, etc. His cancer is localized which is why his doctor wants to do the surgery. So it can be cured. However, this doctor is a surgeon which makes me think that is why he chooses surgery. Other doctors have different opinions.

A little background:
My father was diagnosed with PD in 1991. He had been doing fairly well until he had surgery for Spinal Stenosis last November. That surgery was "successful" in terms of getting rid of the stenosis but I don't believe the hospital treated him as a "whole". That is, they seemed to ignore the PD, gave him narcotics in post-surgery, did not give him his PD meds, and this resulted in ~3 months of nasty hallucinations. He had a real real rough recovery and is only recently back to pre-surgery form. My Mother could not go through that again nor could he. But he is doing much better. He had a good Summer where he was able to make a couple trips. One to see me in North Carolina! (He is in Chicago).

Well, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late Spring. Surgery is scheduled for late August (in a couple weeks!). The fact that he has PD and the recent experience described above makes this a very difficult decision. It's a very difficult decision for a non-PD person.

I am unable to provide all of the specifics of his prostate cancer (counts and levels) and would never expect a surgery vs non-surgery suggestion when you don't know his case. But I am wondering if any of you have experienced the surgery for this cancer while dealing with Parkinson's.
