Dear Bev,

With all due respect, I feel that creationism is pseudoscientific. It is
arrived at by starting with a conclusion which is religiously based and
working backwards to find supporting data and it ignoring contrary important
information. It has no place in a scientific curriculum. You state that your
faith would be stretched to the breaking point if it were proven that man
evolved from lower forms of life. I think creationists feel the same way and
therefore make the data fit their conclusions.

I am sorry that you feel so threatened by modern science. I guess I get so
upset about the actions of the Kansas Board of Education because
understanding of science is necessary to an informed society and the ultimate
conquering of diseases like PD. The scientific method is the key to this
understanding. The Bible is a religious document, not a historical or
scientific one. IMHO it contains much moral wisdom but not scientifically
provable information. Church and State need to be kept apart. While respect
needs to be given to those whose religious beliefs conflict with their
religious teachings that respect should not include the inclusion of
pseudoscience or the de-emphasis of a cornerstone of modern biology.

Carrying things to their logical conclusion- maybe in this multicultural
society- we ought to teach other creation stories as possible theories that
need to be considered. After all this is not just a Christian nation but it
contains many peoples of different backgrounds and beliefs.

You can believe anything you want and I will defend your right to do that but
when you bring religion into public schools that is where your rights stop.

If you would like we can continue this discussion privately rather than
taking up the list space.
