Madeleine L'emgle is a wonderful author of science fiction/fantasy for
children. I think her first book was "A Wrinkle in Time" in which she
describes the space-time continuum as being like a piece of fabric, which can
be wrinkled. By jumping from the ridge of one wrinkle to the ridge of the next
wrinkle, you can travel forward or backward in time. This she calls
'tessering" and the wrinkle is called a "Tesseract" .
