In reply to Charlie and Roger: Quite true, the NMS-like abrupt-withdrawal syndrome, like NMS itself, is extremely rare, but the consequences are too severe to ignore. In dealing with rare events like this statistically, you multiply the very small odds of losing by the very large penalty, and the product, called the "expectation", is still significant enough to merit attention. BTW, delirium is not the most serious symptom of NMS or of the abrupt-withdrawal syndrome.
