center, laboratory, and incubator in which innovative instructional
practices can be explored, developed, and evaluated. The Director will
also be a key figure in developing a communication across the curriculum

sufficient to warrant appointment at an advanced rank. The Director will
be a tenure-track faculty member of the Department of Technical
Communications. Currently the Department offers a BS in Technical
Communications and has plans to offer a Master's degree in Electronic
Communication and Rhetoric.

    Duties of the Director will include:

-  managing the CEC's professional staff;
- developing plans and procedures for incorporating various types of
   tutorial support and tutor training (electronic and asynchronous, as
   well as synchronous and face-to-face) that will be provided by the CEC;
- assisting and facilitating curricular development on campus, both
   within TC and in collaboration with other university departments;
-  conducting research on electronic communication;
- contributing to Technical Communications' instructional needs by
   teaching 2-3 classes per academic year; and,
- taking a leadership role in attracting external funds and establishing
   and maintaining corporate contacts as a means of supporting and
   promoting the central missions of the CEC.

    Candidates with WAC or CAC experience and/or TA development are
encouraged to apply. The review process will begin on November 15, 1999
and continue until a successful candidate is found. Applicants should
submit a letter of application and dossier. Refer to position 35-99.
