Peter has noticed this sort of thing for some time, and says it is  being
"emotionally labile". The dictionary says "labile" means changing, and that
seems to fit the situation, as one  changes emotions easily.  For Peter, at
least, the tears may seem unrelated to what is going on, what he is
watching on TV or reading, or may be a freer response to  things, as Hilary
suggests.

I wonder if Charlie Meyer cares to comment about this ?
