Don,

I'm a veteran.  Who asked for that information?  "Service numbers"
have been out of fashion for many years.  I had a service number
when I went on active duty (1967), but midway through my service,
they eliminated the service numbers and substituted your Social
Security number.

I suspect that the letter you received was a scam, but tell me who sent
it.
