Quinine is an alkaloid drug product derived from the bark of the Cinchona tree that grows in the Andes mountains of South America. It is also cultivated now in Sri Lanka, India, and Java. It was isolated in fairly pure form well over 100 years ago and it has been used mainly for treating malaria. Michel
