Carole, what they do if you belong to a really frugal insurance company, is twist the patient's arm behind his back while they do surgery on another part of the body. This is cheaper than anesthesia, and they don't feel the pain of the surgery! Also it makes the patient want to leave the hospital sooner, saving them even MORE money! In the future they plan to have the patient assist in the surgery, so they don't need all those highly paid surgical nurses.
