I've been reading this information and I'd like to put something in. Back in 1981, I miscarried my first child at 4 months. If something good could have come out of using the fetus to help someone else to survive, I would have donated it in a heartbeat. On that note, I'm an organ donor also. My children (3) have even said that if something happens to them, they want me to donate their organs to help another person to live. These infertility treatments are a LIFE-GIVING medical advance. Why stop there? The embryos which would otherwise be discarded can be life giving too - not just to one person but potentially to many. If infertility treatments that can produce an excess of live embryos can be legal and morally justified - (and most people would agree that they can) - then a fortiori the use of these excess embryos to save lives should be not only legal but morally mandated.
