progressed?

Subject: Donna Kipp's STN surgery

Listfriends -

I talked to listmember Donna Kipp again today, and am
writing to you with her
permission. She had bilateral STN surgery on June 23rd at
the University of
Kansas Medical Center (Kansas City, Kansas). The
neuro-surgeon was Dr.
Steven Wilkinson, who has been doing stimulator surgeries
for probably five
or six years. He's very good and very experienced.

Donna said the surgery was easy to go through. It took
4-1/2 hours. She
felt wonderful afterward, and saw much improvement in
symptoms, even though
the stimulator hasn't been implanted yet. They started with
just the
electrodes in the brain. Tomorrow she'll have the
stimulator implanted, and
that will be programmed in the next few days. She feels
like a new person -
or the "old" Donna, perhaps. She also feels that the
implants may be helping
her cognitive function.

Once she's home again in Texas, she'll write to the list and
tell you all
about it.
