My memory matches D.B.'s (which, given my memory, may mean we're both wrong). The intention I thought was to examine "teaching" as the active effort to change, alter, improve, upgrade, or whatever. Who are we to do that? What standards are being employed, implicitly and explicitly? Is the classroom a place where new ideas are encouraged and exchanged, or do teachers simply pass (their) old ideas along? At what cost to the students? I think the concern came up in response to the many multi- or cross-cultural contexts that Inkshedders described this past year. I think this goes beyond our dissatisfaction with the "sage on the stage" role to something more fundamental about teachers and students and schools.
