However, in the US, patients with previous pallidotomy are excluded from STN surgery, because one has to adhere to a rigorous research protocol, since STN has not been approved by the FDA yet. As a patient group in the US I would highly recommend to put pressure on the FDA to approve the STN stim. It is very contradictory that the FDA has approved DBS for tremor using part of the thalamus as a target, whereas going a few mm deeper into the brain reaching the STN is not approved.
