Ivan and members

Here's my explanation re your concern re "NAY" votes by Arizona Senator.
McCain and Kyl are "with us" working in their ways for us - while not
compromising in other areas. We all know Mc Cain's long time comitment We
trust him to do his best for us, because he's shown us all along that he is
trustworthy. Kyl's declaration of support is new to us, but we were asked in
so many words to expect it to not look as good as we'd like - we were asked
to sit tight but to expect the increase to NIH and expect PD research to get
NIH's compliance to the intent and specifications of the Udall Act.

I'm not good at explaining things well, so keep in mind that the abovve
paragraph is strictly 'my' interpretation. The following lists my
interpretation of McCains concerns withS1650.

       1. Earmarking ("other than" PD research)

       2. The floor debate added costs exceeding plans re budget on non-PD
items

       3. ipping into the pocket of FY20001 money, to pay for FY2000 item(s)
. Again, this is re non-PD.

McCain's Assistant, will be sending me McCain's official Statement. I'll post
it when I get it. I have a call in to Tom, Kyle's Asisstant asking for th
same.

I'm told by both offices - they support $ icrease for PD and they it seems
they had a "feel" (very confident) that satisfaction of our request was
pretty much a sure thing...

I apoligize to members and friends - I have not been able to follow PARKINSN
LIST posts consistantly and efforts to conserve energy and stay focused in
fight against this PD devil has somehow led me to close the door to friends,
and cling to ssolitude to replenish what eneergy I could. It's latest weapon
has been repeated hits of vertigo. That's been a real slap to my fighting
ability - but the stress of the vertigo fling has a new twist - violant
dyskenisiaon top of vertigo. Have to admit... very creative. I cut myself
off from list member friends slowly almostnot realizing it, but recently
admitting that I'm following the nasty pattern of PD's trick --- self
imposed isolation . I thought I was concentrating on fighting this disease
with recent Udall efforts (backing AZ rep to forum, petitions, letter and
phone projects, trying to initiate unification of statewide PD community,
etc.) But it seems it's another PD way of weakening our defense - I'l try to
participate more. Friends, please write me via personal email address if
you'd like or on the List. Thank you

Mary helen Davila, and Bob Dolezal,

Any idea? Is it because he is following a Republican
position that disagrees with spending on other issues?

 Barbara and Nita,

Mette at PAN told me today that there is NO
allocation for PD in the Senate bill. What we have
 is a colloquy - a separate comment - from
Sens. Wellstone, Specter and , I think, Cochrane,
 asking for $75 million PARKINSON's-SPECIFIC,
money, over and above whatever would be spent
under the Senate Appropriations bill ,as part of the money that
increases the budget of the NIH as a whole.

I hope the more knowlegeable folks on PIEN can
 add to what I've said.

 Ivan
