Walter: Took the words right out of my brain. Good job. The implication is that not practicing safe sex has statistically significant behavioral consequences. Ignoring safe sex is a behavioral contingency.. 2,. The innocent child victim of HIV certainly did not contribute to contracting HIV.. Children on 20/20, especially innocent children help with awareness, similar to Jerry Lewis and his Jerry's kids. . They elicit more emotional response than a story about an older person. 3.PWP are not asking for priority, only an equitable share of the federal spending, per capita parity. 4. HIV is epidemic, contagious, PD is not contagious. PD is not not viewed as a threat to people who don't have it. 5. E Pluribus unum; Stick together, or hang together; In union there is strength; 6. Money and focused research has made a difference for HIV. Not enough has been allocated to PD to make such a statement of significance for PD 7. Politics is the art of compromise, give and take, hopefully such compromise is based on fairness. The relationship between PD and PWP funding appears to be a case of , "You carry the piano, and I'll carry the bench." 8. Sarah: The victim, the mistreated, the under represented, those who get the short end of the stick, may be expected to complain about such inequities. T hose who experience more equitable treatment regard the mistreated as an annoyance, as being covetous of the success of the advantaged. Sarah's remarks lack syllogistic logic and lead to emotional conclusions. Her remarks distort reality by caricaturing PWP as being covetous of the HIV people, Aesop's fable, Fox and the Grapes., sour grapes, sore losers. 9.In the civil rights movement there were activists who demonstrated in the streets. There were also the scholars in academia whose research and writings contributed to the rational discussion of race relations. We don't need Sarahs who muddy the waters by stirring up inter-necine warfare. They add more heat than light, playing one group against another. But then I was told that the nation's largest newspaper circulation is the National Inquirer. Oh well. Re: newspaper scandal. Remember the embarrassment to the New York Times when it was discovered that a contributing reporter who had never been in Vietnam wrote a series of onsite articles. I submit that nobody can adequately write or tell about PD who hasn't been there, rode the roller coaster ride, been there, done that.
