A major story in the Nov 8 issue of The New Yorker (The weekly Profile section pg. 66) is entitled "The Furniture Philosopher: a struggle with Parkinson's unleashes a genius for design. Its a big story, rather unfocused when seen through the mind of this PWP, but giving a rather good picture of the possible phases on YOPD. I say "possible" because the protagonist, Ed Weinberger, seems to have been struck very suddenly with a ferocious attack of PD at 40. However, thereafter, the symptoms, problems and short-term management is very familiar indeed. I would be curious to hear the reaction of others about the impact (if any) of such a story on the popular impression of PD. Given the fact it is in The New Yorker, it should at least increase visibility. Nancy Shlaes deGrazia (65/6)
