Several research institutions need Parkinson brains.

Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, needs Parkinson
brain tissue. Johns Hopkins is one of the original three "Centers of
Excellence" to receive funding under the Udall Act.

The government can provide help in the form of dollars, but it is up to us
to supply research subjects and brain tissue, etc.

Brain tissue may be contributed by pre-arrangement with

There is no cost to the brain donor or family. Costs to transport the
deceased to and from the Johns Hopkins Autopsy Center are covered for those
who die within two hours distance of Johns Hopkins, For those who die
outside the Baltimore area, arrangements will be made with a local medical
facility to harvest the needed tissue.

Generally, there are many years between the initial donation decision and
death. If arrangements for a brain donation have been made early and
carefully and if family members are aware of the decision, this precious
donation can occur without difficulty or stress.

Medical records relative to Parkinson's disease generated during life are a
necessity.

I am a donor.

Subject: BRAIN BANK
Date: Sunday, November 07, 1999 9:15 AM

If I remember correctly, and that in it's self can be a problem, there was
talk of establishing a "Brain Bank" for Parkies' brains when we have no
further use for them. This was for research purposes. Did this ever get
going and if so can someone give me the details?
I coordinate a Parkie Support Group in Sun City Center Florida and we
thought
we would give our member an opportunity to donate their brains and any
other
bits and pieces that could be used, to science.
