i agree with you, bob

i have never understood
why some people seem so reluctant to use the delete key
in my humble opinion, that is just a fact of e-mailing list life

if we sign up to join a mailing list
we have invited mail from that entity into our lives
we cannot then look on it as an intrusion
that way lies madness!

i also have never been able to see
list mail volume or subject matter as a 'problem' for me

whether the subject matter is unrelated to pd
like perry como songs or roofing quotes or ojibway spiritual life
or
whether the subject matter is related to pd
like constipation protocols or arrogant neurologists or drug costs

it all comprises communication and sharing among this cyber-family
we are not a typical "chat-room" group
we are a pd-support group [albeit pretty unique in terms of location]

computer and internet accessibility
to my mind is a natural for a movement disorder support group
how simple
how convenient
how easy to connect with others like us

we are here
for each other
for the long haul
because that's how long we may have to deal with pd

some of us stay around for months and years
some of us come and go voluntarily
or involuntarily

for instance
'meeting' and 'knowing' someone like alan bonander
[a founding listmember who died [non-pd-related] two years ago]
was a blessing in my life
[as well as many other listmembers' i am sure]
i got to share alan's wisdom in many different ways
as well as
his generosity
his infectious humour
his occasional grumpiness
and lucky us, his voice still lives on in the archives

i think a "support group" has to be about support and sharing
no matter what
no restrictions

we who have received the mixed blessing of a pd diagnosis
face a different world than before
we need a place to be us
however we need to be
when we need it
we have quite enough restricting us as it is

we have many hints in the archives about managing mail volume
we have topics for filtering mail subject matter
we all have delete keys

let's use them liberally
if we feel the need to
but please
let's let every voice be heard
in all its glory

ps
for those with mail overload
a tune to hum while sorting mail:

dee delete
dee delete
dee delete
dee delete
da da dah!
...
etc
