MURPH, Ervin et al.

I agree with you on this one if it is true except for the petition which
does not speak to the issue. If it is true it is scary- if anyone is
taking it seriously. I do not believe it and it sounds like it is an urban
legend. To force religion and expressions of faith off the airwaves is not
what needs to happen IMHO. The FCC needs to be in the business of promoting
diversity on the airwaves rather than limiting it.

Schools are a different matter. As Camilla has stated- we live in a
multicultural society and people need to be aware of that fact and the State
should not sanction a particular set of beliefs or belief at all. Imagine
if a Satanist or a believer in witchcraft demanded that their beliefs be
given equal time to Christianity what would the fundamentalist community say
then? BTW that is exactly how many non-Christians feel when confronted with
the Christian message. I think it is far better that the prayer, Bible
reading and celebration of Christmas and other Christian or Jewish holidays
be kept out of schools rather than open the door for that which would be the
logical outcome of allowing Bible reading.

In any case if religion was offered as part of the school day it would have
to be taught objectively as if it were not accepted fact. "e.g. Christians
believe that ..." Is that how the fundamentalist Christian community wants
their religion presented to their children?- I think not!

Sorry about this off-topic rant but I had to get my opinion registered.

Charlie
