Friends-- thanks to the person who alerted us to the discussion of PD on the Diana Rehm radio show this morning, on National Public Radio. We also heard the announcement that our local NPR station would air it, and did listen. It was a very good discussion by 2 neurologists and Mort Kondracke, who spoke with ardor about his wife's experience with PD. Several questions were called in and answered. One thing I didn't hear mentioned was internet and other support--I tried for an hour to call and never got through! I wanted to tell folks about all the grassroots resources--oh well, it was good publicity, and was broadcast nationwide. I taped it for our support group. Update on the"Pennies for PD" campaign in our city-- the student service organization (Alpha Phi Omega) is getting started, putting the neat orange and white cans from NPF around town and campus. I've written a piece for the local weekly paper and the student paper also, and we took pictures to go with it when the young woman and man who are service chairs visited our support group. We're very hopeful that they can do as well as Porky Porkinson, the PD piggy bank did with help from Hilary ! At the very least, it raises awareness of PD ! I mention this in the hope that others may be able to find similar resources, especially in college towns, where student organizations thrive on doing "community service".
