Joan and Eleanor, Hallucinations certainly can be brought on by Sinemet and agoinsts used to treat PD. There is no specific age or time that they come after the diagnosis. I have seen hallucinations in young people in their 40's shortly after being started on Sinemet and know people who have gone 20 years on high dose medications without them. ----- It is a balancing act between the adverse reactions and the theraputic effects of PD meds and the meds used to treat psychosis such as respiridole can have a detrimental effect on PD. Respiridole is one of the "new generation" antipsychotics which supposedly have less parkinsonian sid effects. I have seen them however with this drug. I would rather a PD patient of mine be taking one of the other "new generation" antipsychotics like Zyprexa or Clozaril (which has some other significant side effects). With the start or increase in Respiridol has there been an increase in PD symptoms? A psychiatrist familliar with PD patients is probably your best resource.
