For those who noticed my earlier message about my plan
to walk the 1700 miles of the California section of
the Pacific Crest Trail, this summer: I did a four-day
solo shakedown (believe me, about 2:00 a.m., things
got very shaky!--pun intended) hike on the Lonestar
Trail, this week. For Thanksgiving I baked cornbread
and gnawed on turkey jerky (which, I can attest, is a
lousy substitute for turkey in other forms). The hike
went well, although it's clear that I'm going to have
to cut my packweight down considerably--and that 1700
miles may be much to ambitious.

For those who responed to my earlier message with
encouraging messages: Thank you very much indded! As
I said earlier, I'd welcome any ideas as to how I
could use the hike to publicize the Cause.

Peter
