Re your inability "to pick things up to the right with either eye" after
pallidotomy, you have a right homonymous hemianopia. This visual field
deficit is a well-known and unfortunately common sequela of pallidotomy
because the optic tract runs adjacent to the ansa lenticularis, where the
lesion is intended.
Try looking to the right of whatever you want to see.  See your local
neuro-ophthalmologist for hemianopic prism glasses to keep you from walking
into walls.  Don't drive!
